Hale School, high school in Perth, Western Australia
Hale School is a boys' boarding and day school in Wembley Downs, Perth, occupying a 48-hectare campus with classrooms from Pre-Primary to Year 12. The grounds feature extensive sports facilities including swimming pools, tennis courts, fields for multiple sports, a boathouse on the Swan River, plus specialized buildings like the Forrest Library from 2009 and the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre.
The school was founded in 1858 by Bishop Mathew Blagden Hale and was originally known as Boys High School, one of the first secondary schools in Western Australia. It relocated several times: around 1880 near the Pensioner Guard Barracks, in 1914 to Havelock Street, and finally in 1961 to its current Wembley Downs location.
The school is named after Bishop Mathew Hale and shapes student life through Anglican values like resilience and mutual respect. Daily routines are organized around house groups, which exist for both day students and boarders, creating a sense of belonging.
Visitors can book guided tours to explore the campus and various facilities while learning about the school's programs. The school welcomes families with questions about admission procedures and enrollment, offering support throughout the application process.
The school hosted the English national rugby team in 2003 during the Rugby World Cup, using its sports facilities for training. A former student, Ben Roberts-Smith, received the Victoria Cross for military bravery, one of the highest military honors.
