Jatinegara railway station, Railway station in East Jakarta, Indonesia
Jatinegara is a railway station in East Jakarta, Indonesia, featuring three island platforms and one side platform. Seven tracks handle both intercity trains and commuter services passing through the facility each day.
The station opened in October 1909 under the name Meester Cornelis, honoring a Dutch teacher who founded a school in the area. Between 2018 and 2020, it underwent extensive renovation as part of the Manggarai-Cikarang double track project.
The station takes its name from the Jatinegara district and serves as a major hub for commuters from the eastern suburbs traveling into central areas each day. The track layout forms one of the busiest transfer points between long-distance and local services in the metropolitan region.
The station offers connections to TransJakarta buses, taxis, and regular bus routes serving different parts of the city. The multi-track layout allows travelers to switch quickly between intercity and commuter trains.
Architect S. Snuyf designed the building with Dutch elements adapted to Indonesia's tropical climate. After renovation, the station received a minimalist appearance while the historical structure remained intact.
