Jembatan Merah, Transit station in Sawah Besar, Indonesia.
Jembatan Merah is a Transjakarta bus station in the Sawah Besar area of Jakarta, built on the median strip of a major city road. A pedestrian overpass connects the platforms to street level near The Media Hotel.
The stop opened in 2007 as part of the early expansion of the Transjakarta bus network and grew over time as new routes were added. It was built in an area that has long served as a commercial and transit hub in northern Jakarta.
The station takes its name from a red bridge just south of it, and that detail gives the stop a recognizable identity in a busy part of the city. Travelers passing through can spot the bridge from the pedestrian overpass that connects to the platforms.
The station is reached by pedestrian overpasses from both sides of the road, which keep you away from traffic as you move to the platform. If you plan to transfer between lines, allow a little extra time since the boarding area sits on the median strip.
Although the stop is named after a bridge, it does not sit on or next to one but on the median strip of a wide city road. This gap between the name and the actual location tends to catch first-time visitors off guard.
