Stasiun Jatinegara 2, Railway station in East Jakarta, Indonesia
Stasiun Jatinegara 2 is a railway station located at the border between Matraman and Jatinegara districts in East Jakarta. It operates eight tracks and serves hundreds of daily train departures and arrivals to destinations across Java.
The station opened in 1909 under the name Meester Cornelis, designed by architect S. Snuyf. It received its current name during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s.
The main building blends Indische and modern colonial architectural styles with natural light features suited to the tropical setting. These design choices reflect how rail transport shaped the local landscape.
The station connects to TransJakarta bus routes and provides convenient access for travelers commuting between Jakarta and nearby cities like Bekasi and Cikarang. Visitors should expect crowds during peak hours and allow extra time to navigate the busy platforms.
Each time a train arrives or departs, the station plays the instrumental version of Kicir-Kicir as its signature sound. It holds the distinction of being the first railway station in Indonesia to use this traditional melody as its audio identity.
