Pakubuwono III commissioned the construction of this mosque between 1763 and 1768, establishing it as the central religious institution of Surakarta Sultanate.
The mosque integrates Javanese architectural elements through its tajug-style design, incorporating specific spaces for royal prayers and traditional ceremonial functions.
The complex contains separate prayer areas, ablution facilities, a mihrab, a minbar, and dedicated sections for women following Islamic prayer requirements.
The mosque's minaret, built in 1928 during Pakubuwono X's reign, mirrors the architectural patterns of Delhi's Qutub Minar in India.
