Liceu Dr. Francisco Machado
Liceu Dr. Francisco Machado, Educational colonial building in Colmera, East Timor.
The neoclassical structure features whitewashed exterior walls, unframed windows, and a grand staircase leading to the main entrance with Corinthian pillars.
Built between 1922 and 1924 as Dili Municipal School, the building received restoration in 1952 after World War II damage and again in 2001.
The building represents Portuguese colonial architecture in East Timor, incorporating design elements from both Goan and Macanese architectural traditions.
The Faculty of Education, Arts and Humanities of the National University of East Timor operates in this building, located one block from the National Parliament.
The structure witnessed the education of notable figures including Nicolau dos Reis Lobato, who later became the first Prime Minister of East Timor.
