Central Buton, Regency in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia
Central Buton is an administrative regency in Southeast Sulawesi spanning parts of Muna and Kabaena islands along with several smaller islands. The territory comprises seven districts with Labungkari as the administrative center.
The regency was established in 2014 when it separated from the original Buton Regency following administrative restructuring. This division created a new territorial entity within the island region.
The region reflects strong Islamic practices woven into daily life, while maintaining ties to the heritage of the former Buton Sultanate that shape local identity today.
Access to the region is generally through ports and flights serving the larger islands. Labungkari serves as the main hub for administrative facilities and local services.
Despite its name referencing Buton, this regency contains no territory on Buton Island itself, occupying only parts of Muna and Kabaena. This geographic arrangement results from how the territory was divided during its creation.
