Air Terjun Tumburano, Three-tiered waterfall in Konawe Archipelago Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Air Terjun Tumburano is a three-tier waterfall in Konawe Archipelago Regency where water flows down a massive brown sedimentary rock wall shaped like traditional roof lines. Natural pools form at each level, creating distinct sections along the cascade.
The waterfall sits within Konawe Archipelago Regency, a region that came into being in 2013 following administrative division of the former Konawe Regency in Southeast Sulawesi. This reorganization created the boundaries that define the area where the waterfall stands today.
Local people tell a story about two young lovers, Durubalewula and Wulangkinokooti, whose tragic ending at this place became part of the community's oral heritage. The tale reflects how natural places in the region hold meaning beyond their physical form.
Reaching the site requires a three-hour ferry ride from Kendari City to Lansilowo Village, then a seven-kilometer journey by motorcycle or on foot to the waterfall. Wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water as the final stretch involves rough terrain and uneven paths.
The lowest pool spans about 50 meters wide and offers swimming opportunities surrounded by eroded rock formations shaped by water over centuries. The site has also become popular for canyoning among those seeking adventure in the water-carved landscape.
