St Peter's Cathedral, Anglican cathedral in North Adelaide, Australia

St Peter's Cathedral is a large Gothic Revival Anglican church on a corner lot in North Adelaide. Its stone walls rise to pointed towers, and a broad rose window sits above the main entrance, while inside, rows of wooden pews lead toward a carved chancel arch under a high wooden ceiling.

The site was used for early bishop ordinations before the current building opened for worship in 1877. Construction continued in stages, with the towers finished in 1902 and later additions such as the Lady Chapel completed shortly after.

The carved wooden details and stained glass show Bible scenes mixed with local South Australian imagery, which gives the building a strong sense of place. Visitors often pause near the chancel, where the oak carvings and colored light create a focus for prayer and quiet gathering.

The entrance is easy to find from King William Road, and the interior is open for visitors most days. Wheelchair access is available, and the main spaces are on one level, so moving between the pews and side chapels is fairly simple.

Two large copper chandeliers hang from the ceiling, giving the nave a warmer light than the stone exterior suggests. The northern apse also displays a checkerboard pattern of brick and stone, an unusual touch that many people miss when looking only at the main facade.
