The Electoral district of Jika Jika was a former electoral division covering northern Melbourne suburbs including Bundoora, Preston, Reservoir, and South Morang. The area was shaped by natural features such as Merri Creek and the Yarra River.
The district was established in 1903 through the Electoral Districts Boundaries Act and operated from 1904 until its dissolution during electoral redistribution in 1927. It was replaced by new district boundaries as the region continued to develop.
The name came from the Shire of Jika Jika, referring to the administrative divisions of northern Melbourne suburbs. This connection to local history remains visible in place names across the region today.
The area is located in northern Melbourne and is accessible today through tram and bus lines connecting the former district suburbs. Local information centers in Preston or Bundoora offer good starting points to explore the region.
Henry Beard served as the first elected representative from 1904 to 1907, representing the Labor Party during the early years of the district. His tenure marked the beginning of political representation for this northern suburban area.
