Coburg City Hall, City hall in Coburg, Victoria
Coburg City Hall sits on Bell Street with a distinctive white dome and two wings, each housing spacious community halls designed for public gatherings and events. The structure now serves as the corporate headquarters for Moreland City Council following the 1994 merger that brought together Coburg, Brunswick, and parts of Broadmeadows.
The building opened on April 1, 1922, with the Earl of Stradbroke and Mayor W.E. Cash presiding over the ceremonial dedication. In subsequent decades, it evolved into the administrative center for the area's growing communities.
The building displays memorial stones honoring World War I service members and celebrating C.E. Williams for establishing the area's first free public library. These dedications reflect how the place honors local service and community education.
The venue is easily accessible via Bell Street and provides sufficient space for visitors to view the exterior and grounds. Before visiting, check current opening times or public event schedules, as the building primarily functions as an administrative headquarters.
In 1930, the building received Australia's first Raycophone, a revolutionary film projection system developed locally. This technology allowed the venue to host public film screenings and helped shape entertainment culture in the community.
