Cathedral College, Catholic school building in East Melbourne, Australia
Cathedral College is a school building located at the intersection of Victoria Parade and Eades Street in East Melbourne that operated until 1995. The structure housed classrooms for approximately 300 students in years 5 through 10 and remains a recognizable feature of the area.
The building was designed by architect William Wardell and opened in 1968 as a secondary school on this site. It succeeded Parade College and was itself the original location where St Kevin's College began before relocating to Toorak in 1932.
The name reflects its close connection to St Patrick's Cathedral and the choir that used the building until 1995. For decades, it served as a hub for religious music education in East Melbourne.
The building is protected as a heritage site and can be viewed from the street at Victoria Parade from several angles. Visitors should know that this is a former school building no longer operating as an educational institution.
Few visitors know that this building holds two different school stories under one roof. It was first home to St Kevin's College in its early years and later housed the renowned choir from St Patrick's Cathedral.
