Hawthorn Railway Bridge, Railway bridge across Yarra River in Hawthorn, Australia
The steel truss bridge spans 100 meters over the Yarra River, connecting Burnley and Hawthorn stations on the Alamein, Belgrave, and Lilydale railway lines.
The bridge opened in 1861 after initial construction delays when the ship carrying iron trusses from Britain sank, requiring new materials to be sourced.
The bridge marks the location where Melbourne established its first tram service in 1885, transforming public transportation in the eastern suburbs.
The structure carries three railway tracks after a 1971 expansion, which included strengthening the original piers and adding a metal girder span.
The bridge features five intersecting deck lattice girders and segmental stone arch spans, with double Warren trusses added to the north side in 1912.
