Bendigo Senior Secondary College, Heritage-listed secondary school in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia
Bendigo Senior Secondary College is a heritage-listed high school on Camp Hill in Bendigo, Victoria, made up of several red brick buildings arranged across a sloping site. The buildings follow a Queen Anne architectural style and look out over Rosalind Park below.
The school opened in 1907 under the name Bendigo Continuation School and went through several name changes over the following decades. In 1976 it was officially recognized as Victoria's first school dedicated entirely to senior secondary education.
The Memorial Gates and Steps, built in 1957, honor former students who served in the military and remain a visible part of the campus today. Passing through them, visitors get a sense of how closely the school is tied to the broader story of the local community.
The campus sits on Camp Hill and is easy to reach on foot from central Bendigo, with Rosalind Park serving as a helpful landmark. Since this is an active school, visitors can view the buildings from the surrounding area but should not expect to enter them freely.
In 2001 the school became the first government school in the world to receive accreditation from the Council of International Schools. This recognition came not from a major city campus but from a regional school in a mid-sized Australian town.
