Wodonga

Wodonga stretches along the southern bank of the Murray River, forming a connected urban area with Albury across the state border in New South Wales.

The settlement emerged in the 1850s as a customs post during the Australian gold rush period, later developing into a major railway connection point between Melbourne and Sydney.

Local Indigenous Waywurru people named the area Wordonga after an edible plant growing in the surrounding lagoons.
