Albury Post Office, Heritage post office in Dean Street, Albury, Australia
Albury Post Office is a two-story building of stuccoed brick with decorative moldings and a corner clock tower with cupola on Dean Street. The facade shows Classical Victorian style elements with a palazzo-like structure and was extended in 1904 to accommodate telegraph services.
The building was designed in 1880 by the Colonial Architects Office under James Barnet and merged postal with telegraph services. During the 1920s it received its corner clock tower, which reinforced its Classical appearance.
The building served as a communication hub for the town and continues to blend postal and telegraph services in a single location. Visitors can enter the classical rooms and experience how a Victorian administrative center functioned in daily community life.
The building stands at 570 Dean Street and remains operational, with its original architecture intact. Visitors should know this is a working administrative facility, so it is best to visit outside peak hours and follow accessible areas.
The clock tower with cupola was added later and gives the building a landmark presence at the street corner. This crown-like addition reinforced the original structure in its Victorian strength.
