St. Christopher’s Cathedral

The brick building at 55 Franklin Street features Spanish Romanesque architecture with a bell tower and Blessed Sacrament Chapel installed in 1973.

Founded in 1927 as St. Christopher's Church, the structure became a cathedral in 1938 and received consecration in February 1948.

The cathedral serves as the main seat of the Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn, hosting parliamentary opening prayers and national services.

With a capacity of 1,000 worshippers, the cathedral maintains regular religious services and provides space for community gatherings throughout the year.

The pipe organ, installed in 1972 by Hill, Norman & Beard of Melbourne, contains more than 1,100 pipes across its structure.
