Dominion Building, Wellington
Dominion Building, Wellington, Heritage newspaper building in Victoria Street, Wellington, New Zealand.
The Dominion Building stands seven stories tall with a copper turret, featuring external Caen Stone cladding and marble interior finishes throughout the structure.
Built between 1926 and 1928, the structure housed The Dominion newspaper operations for five decades until their relocation to Press House in 1976.
The building represents the golden age of print media in New Zealand, when newspapers served as primary information sources for urban and rural communities.
Following renovations in 1996, the building now contains thirty-one residential apartments on upper floors while maintaining commercial office spaces below.
The structure incorporates Chicago-influenced architectural elements, including a symmetrical facade with flanking piers and a central shaft topped by a distinctive turret.
