Pakiri Beach extends for 14 kilometers along the coast, featuring white sands and clear waters bordered by green hills and native vegetation.
The area holds the name of Ngāti Wai chief Te Kiri and contained a kauri sawmill at the Pakiri River mouth during the 1860s.
The indigenous Ngāti Manuhiri people maintain strong connections to this coastal area, which includes ancient Māori settlements and traditional gathering places.
Located 90 minutes north of Auckland, the beach offers facilities for surfing, swimming, and camping, with a holiday park providing various accommodation options.
Sand extraction through suction dredging from the seafloor near Pakiri Beach has occurred since the 1950s, influencing the coastal environment.
