Accor Stadium, Multi-purpose sports venue in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia
Accor Stadium is a multi-purpose sports arena in Sydney Olympic Park that offers seating for tens of thousands of spectators across multiple tiers. The roof extends over most of the stands, sheltering visitors from changing weather during events.
The arena was built in the late 1990s for the 2000 Summer Olympics and opened in March 1999. In the following years, the original capacity was reduced to focus on rectangular field events and improved spectator experiences.
The rectangular field hosts rugby league matches and other sporting events throughout the year, showing Australia's connection to national team sports. On game days, fans from across Sydney gather to support their favorite teams and enjoy the shared community atmosphere.
Visitors will find multiple entrances around the arena, each leading to different seating sections. The site has parking available nearby, and public transport connects Olympic Park with central Sydney.
After the Olympics, the venue was reconfigured for rectangular field events like rugby and football, bringing seats closer to the playing surface. This change made it one of the largest permanent rectangular stadiums in the southern hemisphere.

This collection gathers the largest stadiums on the planet, ranked by seating capacity. From the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, India, which hosts major cricket matches, to the vast American university arenas dedicated to football, and the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, these sports facilities demonstrate the scale that infrastructures for competitions and mass gatherings can reach. Each stadium has its own identity: some are exclusively dedicated to a specific sport, while others serve as flexible venues capable of hosting various events. Their sizes enable them to accommodate between 100,000 and over 150,000 spectators, providing organizers the opportunity to gather large crowds for international competitions, national finals, or major ceremonies.
