Yaralla Estate

Yaralla Estate is a property on the Parramatta River in Concord West that functions as a hospital while preserving historic grounds. The site contains a Victorian mansion, several cottages, stables, and gardens arranged across the riverside location.

A former postmaster received the land in 1797 as a government grant and initially used it for orchards supplying the early settlement. The family that later owned the estate hired prominent architects to work on the property during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.

The main house and scattered buildings display Victorian and Edwardian architectural styles that reflect the tastes of the wealthy family who shaped the property. Visitors can still see these design choices in the structures that remain today.

The grounds now house a modern hospital with specialized medical services while public park areas remain accessible to visitors. The best way to experience the property is by walking through the open garden spaces, particularly if you enjoy river views.

The grounds contain the first squash court built in Australia, constructed in 1920 specifically for a royal visit by the Prince of Wales. This unusual facility shows the elevated status of the residents at that time and remains a rare remnant from that era.
