Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, Athletic stadium in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia
Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre is a stadium in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia, with a synthetic Rekortan running track and a covered grandstand for around 5,000 spectators. Next to the main arena, a separate warm-up area provides additional space for training in various disciplines.
The centre was built in 1994 and served as the main warm-up venue for athletes competing at the 2000 Olympic Games. An underground tunnel connects it directly to the nearby Stadium Australia.
Near the entrance, a Walk of Fame displays thirteen bronze plaques honoring athletes from New South Wales, including sprinters Betty Cuthbert and Marjorie Jackson. The plaques are open to visitors and make the site a place where local sporting history can be seen and read up close.
The centre is mainly open on weekdays for training and competition events, so a visit on a working day is recommended. Since it is part of a larger sports complex, it is worth checking in advance whether an event is taking place.
The infield of the competition arena is large enough to host soccer, rugby union, rugby league, and American football at the same time. This makes it one of the few athletics venues where such different team sports regularly take place alongside track training.
