The Entertainment Quarter, Entertainment complex in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia
The Entertainment Quarter is a large leisure and arts complex in Moore Park, a suburb of Sydney, housing film studios, performance venues, restaurants, and shops across an open outdoor precinct. The different areas are connected by walkways, so visitors can move between the studio zone, entertainment halls, and dining areas on foot.
The site was for many decades the Royal Agricultural Society Showground, where large agricultural fairs and exhibitions took place each year. When Sydney prepared to host the 2000 Olympics, the agricultural events moved to a new location and the freed-up land was converted into the studios and venues that stand today.
Film and performing arts schools operate on the grounds, so students and teachers move through the space on a daily basis. This gives the area a working, lived-in feel that sets it apart from a typical shopping or dining complex.
The complex is easy to reach by bus or light rail, both of which have stops close to the entrance. Wednesday and Saturday markets fill the grounds with stalls selling local produce and crafts, so those days offer more to see and do.
The Hordern Pavilion on the grounds has been hosting concerts and large events since the early 1900s, making it one of the oldest working event spaces in Sydney. Many visitors walk past it without realizing how long it has been in use.
