Macquarie Ice Rink, Indoor ice rink in Macquarie Park, Australia
Macquarie Ice Rink is an indoor ice skating facility located within Macquarie Shopping Centre, featuring a full-size Olympic standard ice surface measuring 60 meters long by 30 meters wide. The venue can accommodate around 2000 visitors at once and operates daily sessions for both recreational skating and organized training.
The facility was established in 1981 and became a major training and recreational venue in Sydney's northern suburbs over the following decades. Since opening, it has served as a foundation for skaters and athletes across multiple ice sports disciplines.
The rink hosts AIHL matches between the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs from April to August, and in 2000 it staged the first AIHL final, which Adelaide Avalanche won 6-5 on a shootout against the Macquarie Bears. It also hosted the 1991 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.
The rink sits on the first floor of Macquarie Shopping Centre, reachable by lift for wheelchair access, with parking including disabled spaces and public and disabled toilets inside the centre. Skate hire, lockers in limited numbers, a café and a gym are on site. The centre also houses a medical centre.
The rink hosted the 1991 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships, and in 2000 it staged the first AIHL grand final, where the Adelaide Avalanche beat the Macquarie Bears 6-5 in a shootout. Its 60 m × 30 m sheet is the only Olympic-sized ice in Sydney.
