Scone

Scone is a town in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales that serves as the administrative center for the surrounding rural region. The main hub sits around Liverpool Street, where most services and facilities are located.

The town developed in the 1800s as a trading and administrative center for the farming communities of the Upper Hunter Valley. Its current administrative structure took shape in 2004 when several local councils merged.

Horse breeding is deeply woven into the community here, with farms and training facilities scattered throughout the landscape. This heritage shapes how locals live and work in the region.

Most of what you need is found near the town center with good parking and easy access to shops and services. The place is fairly compact and easy to walk around.

Nearby sits the Burning Mountain Nature Reserve, where an underground coal seam has been burning for thousands of years. This rare natural phenomenon is one of the world's longest-burning underground coal fires.
