St Alban's Anglican Church

St Alban's Anglican Church, Anglican church in Muswellbrook, Australia.

St Alban's Anglican Church is a religious building in Muswellbrook featuring a copper-clad broach spire and stone walls quarried from the local Atienne site. Inside, the space is decorated with stained glass windows created by the Howard Brothers and contains oak pews alongside an intricately carved stone baptismal font.

The church was built between 1864 and 1869 and stands as the only Australian building designed by renowned English architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. This distinction marks it as an important example of how major architectural talents contributed to colonial settlements during that period.

The church serves as a gathering place for the local Anglican community and continues to host regular worship services and community events. The sacred space reflects the spiritual traditions that have shaped the region since its construction in the 19th century.

The church is located in central Muswellbrook and can be accessed during regular opening times when services or events are not in progress. Visitors are advised to check ahead for visiting hours, as access may be restricted during private ceremonies or maintenance periods.

The pipe organ, originally built in 1868 by J.W. Walker of London, underwent significant restoration work in 2005 while keeping the original pipes and design intact. This careful blend of preservation and modern care demonstrates how to maintain a historic musical instrument for ongoing use.
