Tocal Homestead, Heritage-listed homestead in Paterson, New South Wales, Australia
Tocal Homestead is a stone house with two floors and verandahs facing the Paterson River. The main building stands on a large property with agricultural outbuildings, stockyards, and other structures connected to farming operations.
The property received its land grant in 1822 and was developed into a productive farm through labor-intensive clearing. A stone barn built in 1867 reflects the architectural style of that period and the property's agricultural significance.
The name comes from the Gringai language of the Wonnerau people, who camped at this location long before European settlement. Visitors walking the grounds can sense this connection to the land through the property's position and character.
The site operates as an agricultural education center where visitors can explore the homestead and its historic buildings. Access to the property allows visitors to walk around the grounds and see how the space was organized for farming.
The 1867 stone barn was designed by Edmund Blacket, a noted architect who shaped public buildings across Australia. The structure displays uncommon craftsmanship and architectural details that are rarely seen in rural buildings from that era.
