South East Queensland, Geographic region in Queensland, Australia
South East Queensland is a region in the state of Queensland, Australia, stretching from Noosa in the north down to the border with New South Wales. The area brings together several urban centers, rural districts, and natural parks under one geographic label.
European settlers arrived in the 1840s and established timber and farming operations in the area. The communities around Brisbane and Ipswich formed the first permanent colonial settlements in what later became Queensland.
The region contains three major urban centers - Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast - each contributing to a population exceeding 3 million inhabitants.
The TransLink system connects the region with trains, buses, and ferries, making it possible to move between coastal towns and inland areas. Most visitors explore several places within the region during an extended stay.
The region contributes to the economy of Queensland through farming, commerce, and tourism. This diversity makes it one of the most economically active parts of Australia outside the capital cities of Sydney and Melbourne.
