Gabbinbar homestead

Gabbinbar homestead is a Victorian-era house in Toowoomba, Queensland, built with timber and featuring French doors that open to wide verandahs. A central entrance vestibule connects spacious living areas, while extensive gardens surround the property.

Reverend William Lambie Nelson commissioned architect Willoughby Powell to design this substantial homestead in 1876. The building later served as a summer residence for Queensland governors.

The property reflects the success of early Queensland pastoralists through its formal layout, fine joinery, marble mantelpieces, and leadlight windows. These details reveal the social standing and refinement of its original inhabitants.

The property sits on Ramsay Street and now functions as a wedding and events venue. Visitors can explore the preserved architecture while modern facilities support its use for gatherings.

The grounds contain a gatehouse, tree-lined entrance drive, and several sports facilities from different periods, including a bowling green, croquet lawn, and tennis court. These outbuildings and recreational areas extend the historical experience well beyond the main house.
