Enoggera Dam, Heritage embankment dam in Enoggera Reservoir, Queensland, Australia.
Enoggera Dam is a clay-cored embankment that holds back the Enoggera Reservoir in Queensland. The structure rises from the creek valley with a curved profile spanning across the landscape.
Built between 1864 and 1866 under engineer Joseph Brady, it was Queensland's first major dam project. This early infrastructure became crucial for supplying water to the developing colonial settlement.
The name Enoggera comes from the Yuggera word yauar-ngari, which means a traditional gathering place for ceremonies. The area maintained this cultural role for local communities over generations.
The area is accessible through the Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre, which provides walking tracks and water access points. Plan your visit on clear days when the paths are easiest to navigate.
The dam features three separate outlet pipes, which is an uncommon design feature for structures built in the 1860s. A modern spillway was added in 1976 to improve flood management.
