Wilston State School

Wilston State School is an educational facility featuring multiple timber-framed structures arranged symmetrically around play areas and landscaped grounds across approximately 2.8 hectares of land. The campus includes numerous classrooms, a visual education center, a library, and one of Queensland's first state school swimming pools, which was built in 1923.

The school opened in 1920 with 320 students, serving the growing population in Brisbane's northern suburbs. It underwent several construction phases over the following decades to keep pace with the rapid expansion of the surrounding communities.

The school became known for its music and arts programs, which led to the creation of its own orchestra by the late 1920s. This emphasis on artistic education shaped the school's identity and attracted families seeking well-rounded learning experiences.

The school occupies a spacious, well-organized campus with clear separation between educational and recreational areas. Visitors can easily navigate the grounds as the various buildings are well-spaced and distinct from one another.

The entrance gates built in 1935 were funded through community donations, reflecting the strong sense of connection residents felt toward the school. Next to them stands a bust of William Shakespeare from 1923, marking the institution's commitment to literary and artistic learning.
