Wilston State School

The educational facility encompasses multiple timber-framed structures arranged symmetrically around designated play areas and landscaped features across 2.84 hectares of land.

Opening in 1920 with 320 students, the school expanded through several construction phases to accommodate the growing suburban population in Brisbane's northern district.

Under the leadership of Walter Collings, the first head teacher, the school developed strong programs in music and arts, establishing its own orchestra by the late 1920s.

The facility maintains numerous classrooms, a visual education center, library, and one of Queensland's first state school swimming pools, constructed in 1923.

The entrance gates from 1935, funded by community efforts, stand alongside a William Shakespeare bust from 1923, representing the school's emphasis on both education and arts.
