Victoria Park Hotel, Heritage hotel on Boundary Street in South Townsville, Australia
The Victoria Park Hotel was a two-story timber building with a distinctive corner entrance and architectural features typical of Queensland hotels from the 1890s. The structure displayed the design characteristics of that period through its construction and layout.
Architects Tunbridge & Tunbridge designed the building in 1895, with local builder Jeremiah Dempsey constructing it and opening in 1896. The construction was part of South Townsville's growing development during that period.
The hotel functioned as a gathering place for South Townsville residents, particularly those working at nearby industrial sites such as the Cleveland Foundry and railway workshops. It was a center where the local community came together.
The hotel was originally located at 266 Boundary Street until a fire in 2018 completely destroyed the building. Today the structure no longer exists at this site.
In 1982 community action prevented the building's demolition, enabling extensive repairs that saved its historical features. This rescue effort demonstrated the neighborhood's commitment to preserving local history.
