Staaten River National Park, Nature reserve in Queensland, Australia
The Staaten River National Park extends across 468,784 hectares of tropical savannas, wetlands, and woodlands in northern Queensland.
Dutch explorer Jan Carstensz named the Staaten River in 1623 after the States General, the parliament of the Netherlands.
The Kunjen, Agwamin, Kutjar, Koknar, and Kokoberrin peoples maintain connections to the land and rivers within the park's boundaries.
The park contains multiple waterholes and wetland systems, with palustrine features making up 44 percent of the total wetland area.
The national park supports a population of up to one thousand golden-shouldered parrots, making it a designated Important Bird Area.
