Honiara International Airport

Honiara International Airport sits on Guadalcanal Island with a 2,200-meter asphalt runway handling both domestic and international flights throughout the Pacific. The facility features modern terminal buildings and passenger service areas that support daily operations.

The runway was constructed by Japanese forces during World War II and later captured by American Marines who renamed it after Major Lofton Henderson. The base became a strategic aviation hub following its transition to American control.

The terminal blends modern airport facilities with traditional architectural elements from the Solomon Islands. Visitors experience a mix of contemporary design and local building techniques.

Travelers can reach central Honiara via taxis, minibuses, or pre-arranged hotel transfers starting directly outside the main terminal. It is advisable to allow adequate time for arrival, especially when visiting during the rainy season.
