Yaren District

Yaren District extends across the southern coast of Nauru, containing government buildings, educational institutions, and remnants of World War II artillery at 25 meters elevation.

The district changed its name from Makwa to Yaren in 1968 when Nauru gained independence, marking the beginning of self-governance for the Pacific island nation.

The Naoero Museum in Yaren District preserves national artifacts, historical documents, and traditional objects that reflect the heritage of Nauruan civilization.

The district houses Parliament House, police station, fire station, embassies, and educational facilities including the University of South Pacific's Nauru Campus.

The freshwater source known as Moqua Well sustains the local population of 803 residents, making it an essential natural resource in this coral island district.
