Joske's Thumb, Volcanic plug near Suva, Fiji.
Located 15 kilometers west of Suva, Joske's Thumb rises 440 meters above sea level with its distinct peak visible against the mountainous landscape.
Paul Joske, who arrived in Fiji in 1870 and established the first sugar mill in the area, gave his name to this geological formation.
Local Fijians traditionally called this mountain Mount Rama, and it appears on the reverse side of the Fiji ten dollar bill.
The hiking trail to Joske's Thumb begins at Naikorokoro Road and requires appropriate preparation due to steep inclines and changing weather patterns.
Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to climb Mount Everest, needed three attempts before successfully reaching the summit of Joske's Thumb in 1983.
