Matamoros is a town in southwestern Coahuila located at roughly 1,115 meters (3,658 feet) elevation. It forms part of the Comarca Lagunera, a metropolitan region that connects several communities.
Families first settled at Vega de Marrufo in 1839, and 25 years later President Benito Juárez officially established it as a town. This founding period shaped its growth within the Lagunera region.
