Ganot-Peschard Museum of Archeology, Archaeological museum in Centro Histórico, Durango, Mexico.
The Ganot-Peschard Museum is an archaeological museum in the historic center of Durango with seven permanent exhibition halls. These display artifacts from pre-Hispanic cultures of northern Mexico including tools, architectural remnants, and skeletal remains from various periods.
The building dates from the 19th century and originally served as a residence, later functioning as a printing house and then as a state archive. This shifting use reflects the changing needs of the city over time.
The exhibition rooms display the development of regional cultures such as Loma San Gabriel, Chalchihuita, Guadiana, and Aztatlán through their objects and spatial arrangement. Visitors can see how different groups lived and organized themselves across generations in this region.
The museum is centrally located in the old city and operates several days per week, allowing flexible planning for visitors. The collection is accessible to all ages and can be fully explored during a visit of about two to three hours.
The collection grew from over 30 years of systematic fieldwork by two dedicated researchers who searched deliberately throughout the region for discoveries. This intensive personal gathering made it possible to create a coherent and thorough documentation of local archaeological history.
