Roman Catholic Territorial Prelature of El Salto, Catholic territorial prelature in Durango, Mexico

The Territorial Prelature of El Salto is a suffragan jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Durango, erected on 10 June 1968 by Pope Paul VI. Its territory covers 36,000 km² across the Durango municipalities of Canelas, Otáez, Pueblo Nuevo, San Dimas, Tamazula de Victoria and Topia, plus the parish of San Andrés de la Sierra in Santiago Papasquiaro, divided into 15 parishes. The bishop's seat is in El Salto, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The territorial prelature was erected on 10 June 1968 by Pope Paul VI through the apostolic constitution Non habentibus, taking territory from the Diocese of Mazatlán and the Archdiocese of Durango. It became a suffragan of Durango, with its episcopal see in the town of El Salto. Its first ordinary, Francisco Medina Ramírez, O.C.D., took office on 7 December 1973.

The prelature's seat is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in El Salto, the town that gives the jurisdiction its name. The prelature was carved from the Diocese of Mazatlán and the Archdiocese of Durango, and its territory covers the municipalities of Canelas, Otáez, Pueblo Nuevo, San Dimas, Tamazula de Victoria and Topia, plus the parish of San Andrés de la Sierra in Santiago Papasquiaro.

The prelature covers 36,000 km² across the Durango municipalities of Canelas, Otáez, Pueblo Nuevo, San Dimas, Tamazula de Victoria and Topia, plus the parish of San Andrés de la Sierra in Santiago Papasquiaro. Its 15 parishes are spread over this mountain terrain, so distances between them are long; the see is in El Salto, where the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe stands.

The prelature was carved on 10 June 1968 by Pope Paul VI's apostolic constitution Non habentibus, taking territory from the Diocese of Mazatlán and the Archdiocese of Durango. Its first prelate, the Discalced Carmelite Francisco Medina Ramírez, led it from 1973 until 1988.
