The Mazatlán Lighthouse directs maritime traffic with a powerful beam visible from 30 nautical miles away through its 1000-watt bulb and Fresnel lens system.
In 1879, the lighthouse construction replaced the basic whale oil beacon from 1828, marking a substantial advancement in maritime safety along Mexico's Pacific coast.
Multiple lighthouse keepers maintain this signal station while preserving maritime traditions and navigation methods that span generations of seafaring communities.
Visitors reach the lighthouse by following a 745-meter gravel path and climbing 336 stairs, with access restricted during extreme heat conditions above 40 degrees Celsius.
The glass-bottomed lookout platform, installed in 2018, extends from the hilltop at 157 meters above sea level, requiring visitors to wear protective foot covers.
