Point Hueneme Light, Lighthouse at the Santa Barbara Channel entrance in California, United States.
Point Hueneme Light is a concrete tower standing 15 meters tall above a single-story building that once housed fog signal equipment. The structure displays art moderne design elements and marks the entrance to the Santa Barbara Channel.
The lighthouse was constructed in the 1870s after Congress approved funding for the project. The original tower was eventually replaced by the current structure to meet modern navigational needs.
The name Hueneme comes from the Chumash language and refers to a resting place in this coastal region. This linguistic connection to the original inhabitants is part of what makes this location distinctive today.
Access is limited since the facility remains in active operation as a navigational aid. Visitors should use parking near Sunset Beach and check with local authorities for current visiting opportunities.
The original Fresnel lens from 1899 was used in both the first and second towers for over a century. This historic optical equipment was rescued and preserved by a local cultural organization only in 2013.
