Fort MacArthur, Military historic district in San Pedro, Los Angeles, United States.
Fort MacArthur is a former military defense site in San Pedro, Los Angeles, United States, spread across three separate zones near the harbor. The preserved gun batteries, bunkers, and military buildings date from different phases of the twentieth century.
The site opened in 1914 and was named after Lieutenant General Arthur MacArthur, father of later General Douglas MacArthur. During World War I it served as a training center, and in 1917 large coastal guns were installed to protect the harbor.
The museum on site displays uniforms, weapons, and personal items from soldiers stationed here over decades. Visitors walk through bunkers and command rooms where daily routines of harbor defenders remain visible.
The upper site is now a public park with paths and lookout points over the ocean. The lower zone has been converted into a marina where boats dock and anglers prepare their gear.
Battery Osgood-Farley is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and still shows original gun emplacements from the early twentieth century. You can see thick concrete walls and the mechanics of rotating platforms once used for coastal defense.
