Warner Grand Theater, Art Deco movie theater in San Pedro, United States.
Warner Grand Theater is an Art Deco movie theater in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and opened in 1931. The interior features a double staircase leading to mezzanine lounges, decorated ceilings, glass chandeliers, and tiled fountains.
The theater was designed by architect B. Marcus Priteca and was one of three Warner Brothers buildings in California when it opened. It was built at a time when large movie palaces served as gathering points for whole communities, and grand interiors were a sign of the film industry's rise.
The Warner Grand Theater remains a working venue in San Pedro, hosting concerts, film screenings, and local events that draw residents from across the area. Visitors today can see the decorated ceilings and original lighting fixtures exactly as they appeared when the building first opened.
The theater is in San Pedro, a neighborhood in the southern part of Los Angeles, most easily reached by car or public transit. Programming changes regularly, so it is worth checking what is scheduled before planning a visit.
The original stage curtain shows a castle rising from the sea, which gave the theater its early nickname, The Castle of Your Dreams. This curtain has survived to the present day and remains one of the few elements that dates directly to the opening year.
