Norwegian Seamen's Church, San Pedro

The Norwegian Seamen's Church occupies a modern building at 1035 South Beacon Street, featuring nautical elements and stained glass windows throughout its interior design.

Established in 1946 by Elbjørg Amundsen Baardsen and Sig Baardsen, the church moved to its current location in 1951 under architect Kemper Nomland's direction.

The church maintains Norwegian traditions through language classes, Sunday school programs, and regular celebrations including the annual May 17th Norwegian Constitution Day.

The facility welcomes approximately 15,000 visitors annually and maintains contact with up to 1,000 families through regular newsletters and community outreach programs.

This maritime-focused religious center receives around 160 Norwegian ships each year, providing essential support services to crew members and local Scandinavian residents.
