Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine

The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine is a 10-acre meditation garden built around a spring-fed lake featuring waterfalls, fountains, and gardens. The property includes walking paths that wind through the landscape and connect different prayer areas and meditation spots.

The property originally served as a filming location for silent movies in the 1920s before Paramahansa Yogananda established it as a spiritual sanctuary in 1950. This transformation marked its conversion into a meditation and prayer center.

The Court of Religions displays symbols representing five major faith traditions side by side, inviting visitors to see different spiritual perspectives together. This arrangement creates a space where people of different religions can share in the same grounds.

The gardens are open Wednesday through Sunday and require advance reservations to visit the meditation areas. Sunday temple services are freely accessible and do not require booking ahead of time.

The Gandhi World Peace Memorial holds a portion of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes inside a thousand-year-old Chinese stone sarcophagus tucked away on the grounds. Many visitors pass by without noticing this quiet tribute to the Indian leader.
