Santa Monica High School, Public high school in Santa Monica, United States.
Santa Monica High School is a public hilltop campus at 601 Pico Boulevard with four academic houses, sports fields, and a Greek-style amphitheatre facing the sea. The grounds feature science labs and classroom buildings surrounded by wide walkways and green spaces.
The school opened after the Union High School Law and moved through several locations before settling at its present hilltop site on Pico Boulevard. The theatre building arose during the major government construction programs of the late 1930s and still serves the entire town as a performance venue.
The local symbol is a Viking, recalling early Norwegian immigration to the coastal area and appearing today on flags and athletic jerseys. Students and parents gather on the steps of the Greek Amphitheatre on game days and look out toward the ocean together.
The entrance sits near the intersection with Fourth Street and walkways across the grounds are wide enough for wheelchairs and strollers. Drivers can find street parking in the neighboring residential blocks.
The orchestra recorded a CD in the early 2000s and traveled to competitions on the East Coast, while the marching band has paraded through the streets for more than a century. Both groups rehearse regularly in rooms also used by city music clubs.
