10050 Cielo Drive, Benedict Canyon, Los Angeles, Iconic residence in the United States

The residence at 10050 Cielo Drive was a home in the Hollywood Hills designed to resemble a small European cottage, set on a secluded lot overlooking the surrounding landscape. The building featured windows with views across the hills and sat among lush vegetation that provided seclusion from the city below.

The building was constructed in 1941 and was first owned by French actress Michèle Morgan before being sold several times over subsequent decades. In August 1969 it became the scene of murders committed by members of the Manson Family, resulting in the deaths of actress Sharon Tate and four others.

The original address became linked to one of Hollywood's darkest chapters, drawing interest from those who study that troubling period. The number was later changed to 10066 Cielo Drive in an effort to distance the property from its grim past.

The original structure was demolished in 1994 and replaced with a new estate at a different address, so no remains of the old house are accessible today. The current property is privately owned and not open to the public.

Musician Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails rented the property in 1993 and used the main room as a recording studio, naming it with a reference related to music. When the building was torn down shortly after, he took the front door and bricks from the fireplace.
