Pickfair, Historic estate in Beverly Hills, California
Pickfair was an estate at 1143 Summit Drive in Beverly Hills with stables, tennis courts, and a separate guest wing. The rooms spread over several floors and featured a private bathing area with swimming pool along with European furnishings.
Douglas Fairbanks acquired the property in 1918 and converted a hunting lodge into a large residence for Mary Pickford. The couple merged their surnames into the name of the property and received guests from film and politics there.
The mansion hosted notable figures including Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt during Hollywood's early period.
The grounds sat on a hillside overlooking the flatlands and were reachable through a winding driveway. Today only parts of the enclosure and few building remnants from the founding period remain.
The original building fabric was largely demolished in 1990, and only gates along with parts from the salon remained. A new building then arose on the same parcel with no direct architectural connection to its predecessor.
