Bunker Hill, Business district in Downtown Los Angeles, United States

Bunker Hill is a business district in downtown Los Angeles featuring modern high-rises, corporate buildings, and major art museums spread across the hillside. Elevated walkways and pedestrian bridges connect the structures, creating a network of pathways above street level.

The area began in 1867 as an affluent residential neighborhood featuring Victorian mansions on the hillside. Starting in the 1950s, an urban renewal project demolished these historic structures and transformed the site into the modern commercial district it is today.

The concentration of arts venues along Grand Avenue defines how this area functions as a cultural destination where locals and visitors experience live performances, exhibitions, and contemporary art.

The Angels Flight funicular railway connects Hill Street to Grand Avenue, offering convenient transportation between the different levels of the hillside. Walking paths are extensive throughout the area, so comfortable shoes are recommended if you plan to explore multiple locations.

The 1959 urban renewal project radically reshaped the hillside by lowering its elevation and installing a completely new street grid. This massive regrading effort erased the original topography and allowed the modern layout to be built from scratch.
