La Crescenta-Montrose, Census-designated place in Los Angeles County, United States
La Crescenta-Montrose is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County situated at the foothills of the Verdugo and San Gabriel Mountains. The area contains residential neighborhoods, schools, libraries, and local shops spread across multiple valleys.
The area was originally part of Rancho La Canada, established through a Mexican land grant in 1843. Later, settler Benjamin B. Briggs named the community after the crescent-shaped formations of the valleys.
The La Crescenta Woman's Club, founded in 1911, remains a gathering place for neighborhood celebrations and community service events. This tradition of civic participation continues to shape how residents connect with one another.
The area is served by schools in the Glendale Unified School District, public libraries, and public transportation connections to Los Angeles. The hilly terrain means some streets are steep, and having a car is practical for getting around.
After wildfires in nearby mountains in 1933, the area experienced severe mudslides during December rains. These natural disasters triggered the Great Flood of 1934, which left lasting marks on the landscape.
